Windows 11 comes with a feature called Windows spotlight that shows beautiful photography from around the globe when you are not using the computer and it’s locked. On the lock screen, Windows will begin displaying the background settings you choose. You will also be able to choose system notifications to display on the lock screen to show you upcoming calendar events, social network updates, and other apps. To get started with personalizing your lock screen, follow the steps below:

How to add a lock screen background

Windows 11 has a centralized location for the majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from its System Settings pane. To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + I shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings as shown in the image below: Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it. Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Personalization, and select Lock screen on the right pane of your screen shown in the image below. On the lock screen, you can change the background to a favorite photo or slide show of images you want to display. You have three options to select from for images to display. Windows spotlight: shows beautiful photography automatically on your lock screen. It updates daily with images from around the globe, and it also shows tips and tricks for getting the most out of Windows. Picture: shows images that are included with Windows as well as custom images you select to display. Slideshow: shows album slideshows of your images to display on your lock screen. By default, Windows spotlight is chosen to display images on your lock screen. Spotlight images won’t display if your account doesn’t allow it or your PC is rebooted. For the spotlight to show images, it must be turned on and you need to be signed into Windows first. To test if the Windows spotlight is working correctly, press the Windows logo key  + L to lock your device. The Windows spotlight image should appear on the lock screen. When you select your Picture to show on your lock screen, you’ll be given the option to select recent images or browse for photos on your system you want to use on the lock screen. Same with slideshow. Browse your photo album and the select slideshow you want to display on the lock screen.

Troubleshoot

If you don’t see the Windows spotlight image when you’re signing in, select the Start button, then select Settings  > Personalization  > Lock screen. Then make sure the Show lock screen picture on the sign-in screen is turned on. That should do it! Conclusion: This post showed you how to personalize Windows 11 lock screen.
